THE LAND USE APP
CHOOSE THE RIGHT JOB FOR YOU
BE HONEST about what you like and don't like to do; don't accept a job you know you will hate and not get done right.
BE SMART in knowing how much time you can really devote to a job.
BE CLEAR about your strengths and weaknesses; and for goodness sakes don't accept a job that might exceed your physical capabilities and hurt you.
AVOID SAYING YES when you know you really can't do it -- DELIVER what you promise; and DO NOT promise what you cannot deliver.
CHOOSE YOUR BEST VOLUNTEER FIT:
1. Direct Service = club leader, coach, worker bee, counselor, photographer?
2. Leader = officer, board member, committee chair, fundraiser?
3. General Support = office worker, cleaner, receptionist, sign-in table, web help?
4. Member at Large = occasionally attend meetings or projects to help as you can?
LEAD OR FOLLOW but don't get in the way and certainly don't waste good talent.
ALWAYS BE CLEAR ON EXPECTATIONS -- write an expectation to ACHIEVE things that make you smile; and write expectations to AVOID things that make you frown.
SIGN UP for what you can do -- paperwork, wield a shovel, lead a committee; whatever it is, jump in and do it.
MANAGE YOUR MONKEYS by feeding the ones you own and getting rid of the ones you shouldn't be owning! AVOID BURNOUT -- Don't let them ride your back when they are not yours! But take care of the ones you accept!
