HOW TO BUILD A COALITION OR FRIENDS GROUP
If your riding area, favorite trail, or recreation site overlaps a lot of clubs, associations, groups, whatever, your best bet for saving it is to form a "friends" type group or coalition. Here is the formula.
1. STEP UP TO THE PLATE: It takes just one person to step up and decide to make something happen. Don't wait for someone else to save your trail. Get 'r done!
2. COMMUNICATE: Gather emails, visit club meetings, get people excited about your new group and start a social network page. Let folks know what you're doing and why.
3. ADVERTISE: Get a simple website going with at least some contact info and the purpose of your group, as well as how to join up.
4 ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Start building membership and assigning jobs, even simple ones, to get folks engaged in saving your area.
5 STAY ALIVE: Schedule annual meetings once you get going, along with clean-ups and other fun projects to keep people working with you to save your area.
