For over 40 years, I’ve been writing, riding, four-wheeling, and rallying for the great American outdoors and motorized recreation access. My journey began with a typewriter, compass, and a trail map, and it’s taken me from combat in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam as a young Green Beret to the rocks of the Rubicon Trail, the vast expanse of Death Valley, and the red rock country of Moab, UT.
I’ve worn a lot of hats — usually a cowboy one. I’m an author, photojournalist, land use strategist, advocate for sustainable motorized recreation, Jeeper, and founding force behind a few organizations that fight to preserve motorized recreation and keep public lands accessible for all. Through my work with groups like the California 4-Wheel Drive Association, RestoreTrails.Org, Friends of the Rubicon, Rubicon Trail Foundation, and the American Sand Association, I’ve helped build bridges between the outdoor community and the policymakers who shape our trails.
You’ll find me behind the wheel of a rig built for adventure, camera in hand, telling the real stories of the wild places we love — their beauty, their history, and the battles to protect them.
When I’m not out on the trail or behind the lens, I’m here—sharing tales, tips, and truths with fellow explorers who believe in responsible and sustainable motorized recreation, freedom of access, and living life with purpose with Stacie Albright, my wife and outdoors-loving woman!
Welcome to my campfire. Let’s grab a handful of adventure!
